CROATIA

THE LAND OF A THOUSAND ISLANDS

Croatia boasts over 1,000 islands sprinkled throughout the Adriatic Sea and is arguably one of the most stunning coastlines in the world. Spending time at sea, both on and near Croatia’s islands, is a quintessential part of the Croatian experience.

Croatia’s mainland also has an incredible wine scene in Istria, a bustling capital in Zagreb and epic national parks and nature reserves sprinkled throughout. Each region is unique and where you travel will depend on your interests and how much time you have.

There are certain countries where we at The Citrine Compass will recommend a little support when planning your trip. This is usually due to the complexity of logistics, the exclusivity of properties or the remoteness of the destination. Africa is one of those places!

Isabella Fleitas Croatia Travel Consultant
  • EXPERTISE | Zagreb + Croatia weekend trips

PROFILE | Isabella is a Dominican-Canarian travel content content creator who caught the travel bug from her parents at a young age. Love brought her unexpectedly to Croatia two years ago and she has been loving life here ever since! In her spare time, she enjoys all things coffee, dance and yoga.

Isabella is passionate about immersive travel, discovering local places and exploring all that Croatia has to offer. She loves creating custom itineraries with a mix of local recommendations, hidden gems, must-see places, and local recommendations to bring visitors closer to Croatian people and culture.

Best advice for visitors? Croatia is so much more than just its beautiful Dalmatian islands or Game of Thrones locations. If you limit yourself, you'll be missing out on amazing places like its buzzing capital, magical hilltop towns, truffle hunting, wine and olive oil tasting, and UNESCO national parks.

Best time to visit Croatia? While summer is often the best time to visit, if you're looking to escape the crowds there are a lot of things happening during the winter season! Think of niche country-wide festivals (olive, sausage, music, film, lights, flowers, chocolate and coffee, Renaissance, wine, gastronomic), various regattas, Christmas markets, Rijeka Carnival, marathons...the list goes on and on!

Linda Cendak Croatia Travel Consultant

  • EXPERTISE | Linda is a Trusted Travel Partner so she can do 360° Travel Planning for Croatia

PROFILE | Linda is a dual citizen of Croatia and Slovenia and to be honest, she cannot decide which country she loves more! Her interest in tourism and travel started in high school where she graduated as a tourism technician and afterwards she studied in Trieste, Italy. Her knowledge and passion for the Friuli Venezia Giulia area grew as well as Istrian Peninsula and Kvarner Gulf.

Linda is on a personal quest to see the world and by working as a travel designer, her job is also her hobby and her dream come true. As a fan of off-the-beaten-track experiences, she can create wonderful itineraries that contain all the hidden Croatian gems which are not usually found online. She is fluent in Croatian, English and Italian and her current hobby is learning Spanish, so she can meet, communicate and share experiences with as many people as possible.

What part of Croatia is worth visiting? Croatia is a beautiful country with over 1200 islands, islets and rocks, 8 national parks, 11 nature parks and some of the most wonderful and caring people in the world. The great thing about visiting Croatia is that you can come visit anytime of year and have a unique experience. In the summer, you can get almost tropical weather on the coast, in the spring or autumn you can visit Istria or Kvarner Bay, and in the winter you can enjoy Zagreb's Christmas Advent (voted “Best Christmas Market Award” by European Best Destinations three years in a row from 2016 – 2018) or visit the Opatija Advent, which leaves people breathless.

Any tips for visiting Croatia? If a traveler is seeking peace and quiet, I would avoid Dalmatia in the high season (June, July and August) and visit some of the charming Istrian villages instead where visitors can get some good rest and authentic experiences by the sea or in the countryside.

Croatia Testimonials

  • “Isabella was delightful to talk to and the follow-up form has a lot of valuable recommendations, especially for things to do. I appreciated the level of customization in our conversation and the depth of knowledge that Isabella had of Croatia. She shared her screen and showed me the map and what she was typing, that was helpful. Overall, I think this service is very valuable and would use it again!”
